Him Sangya Tamang

Senior Leader

Him Sangya Tamang aka Sangya among tourists, was born in Aiselu Kharka, Khotang, a hill village in eastern Nepal. Growing up in the Himalayas’ shadow, the mountains were not a view from far away, they were a way of life. He never longed to be out of the trails, fascinated by stories of trekkers and climbers passing through. Soon enough, he was on those same trails, not as a spectator, but as a part of them.

Since the young age of 16 years, he entered trekking, carrying loads as a porter. The trek was tiresome, but with every step, he became stronger. He watched, he learned, and soon he was the one that paved the way. He has guided mountaineers up some of the toughest routes in Nepal over the years, including Himlung Himal, Mera Peak, Lobuche Peak, and Thorong La Pass. There were new challenges, new learnings with every climb and an emotional bond with the mountains.

With 30 years of experience, Sangya is not only a trekking guide, he is a man who has lived a lifetime on these trails. He has witnessed the trekking industry evolve, encountered people from all corners of the globe, and yet, the mountains are the same, expansive, humbling, and full of stories to be lived. Now, as a Senior Leader of Trek Curator, he keeps doing what he does best, guiding, sharing, and making every trek an unforgettable experience.
